Training #1

Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace: Ways to PromoteTeamwork, Collaboration, and Progress

Training was designed to increase participants’ understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome, and ADHD/ADD, and allow participants to identify and implement reasonable adjustments for colleagues with neurodiversity.

Goals: (1) Increase understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, ADHD/ADD. (2) Identify strategies for better communication and inclusivity.

Target Audience: all staff working including those working alongside or managing autistic colleagues including supervisors, human resource staff, workplace mentors, diversity inclusion staff.

Prerequisite: No previous knowledge of neurodiversity or course is required.

Duration: 110 Minutes

After taking this training participants will be able to:

  • Discuss key features of Autism, ADHD/ADD.

  • Define “Neurodiversity” and understand the “Neurodiversity Movement”.

  • Identify common myths and stereotypes of people with ASD and ADHD

  • List the difficulties people with neurodiversity may experience in the workplace.

  • Recognize strategies for better communication.

Training #2

Hiring Inclusivity and Accommodations in the Workplace: Discovering Untapped Potential and Ensuring Success

This training was designed to help participants understand the benefits of inclusive hiring and the advantages of an inclusive workplace culture. In addition, participants will learn human resource strategies and policies to successfully support employees with neurodiversity.

Goals: (1) Understand the benefits of inclusive hiring and the advantages of an inclusive workplace culture (2) Learn human resource strategies and policies to successfully support employees with neurodiversity.

Target Audience: Human resource staff, workplace mentors, management, supervisors, and diversity inclusion staff.

Prerequisite: Completion of Training #1- Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace or advanced understanding of human resources and inclusivity.

Duration: 110 Minutes

After taking this training participants will be able to:

  • Understand the business case for neurodiversity in the workplace.

  • Define inclusive hiring and list advantages of an inclusive hiring strategy.

  • Be able to list adaptation strategies for pre-hiring, recruitment and interview tips.

  • Identify adjustments and accommodations that support retainment and create an inclusive workplace environment.

Training #3

Supporting Time Management and Other Executive Functioning Issues in the Workplace

This training was designed to help participants understand ways to support executive functioning impairments in the workplace.

Goals: (1) Understand executive functioning impairments. (2) Learn strategies to help people with executive function deficiencies.

Target Audience: Human resource staff, workplace mentors, management, supervisors, and diversity inclusion staff.

Prerequisite: Completion of Training #1 Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace or advanced understanding of human resources and inclusivity.

Duration: 80 Minutes

After taking this training participants will be able to:

  • Define executive functioning and list executive functioning skills.

  • Understand how impairments in executive functioning skills may be visible up in the workplace.

  • Identify what populations may have impairments in executive functioning skills.

  • List strategies to help people with executive functioning impairments.

Training #4

Neurodiversity and the Law: A Guide to Workplace Compliance

Goals: Supporting neurodiversity in the workplace, particularly in the context of ensuring compliance and developing best practices relating to the two leading disability employment civil rights laws, the ADA and Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Target Audience: Legal staff, human resource staff, workplace mentors, management, supervisors, and diversity inclusion staff.

Prerequisite: Completion of Training #1 Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace or advanced understanding of human resources and inclusivity.

Duration: 60 Minutes

After taking this training participants will be able to:

  • Discuss legal standards established by the ADA and Section 503 in the context of neurodiversity and non-apparent disabilities.

  • Understand ways to increase Section 503 self-identification through including neurodiversity and non-apparent disabilities as a focus in self-identification campaigns

  • Identify best practices and initiatives for supporting neurodiversity and disability inclusion in the workplace.

  • Illustrate how neurodiversity and autism at work programs can help build accessible and inclusive work environments, helping ensure compliance with the ADA and Section 503.
